The rope use for a gin wheel should preferably be a natural fiber rope (manila) with a minimum diameter of 16mm. smaller diameter ropes can be spliced into this main rope to provide a more user friendly diameter rope to tie onto equipment. It is common to end splice the main gin wheel rope to form an endless rope with two smaller diameter ropes spliced into the main rope for attaching equipment.
